Keep Your Head Up

London, UK
Hey there,

So we're officially half way through the year and with everything from terrorists attacks to police brutality to England trying to throw itself off a cliff it can be hard to stay positive, to keep your head up and believe that things will turn out for the best.

As someone who has struggled with both depression and anxiety for over 5 years I understand how during times like these it can be really hard to maintain a positive outlook and not let yourself get consumed by everything thats going on. When I tell you self care is key, I really mean it. Taking care of yourself first and foremost is the most important thing you can do for yourself. Whether its talking to your therapist or counsellor or small things like indulging yourself with a nice meal or new purchase, making sure that you're okay is vital.

So here are some ways I like to keep my head up

  1. TALK TO SOMEONE. I know it seems so simple but for some reason a lot of us tend to keep our worries to ourselves and thats really unhealthy. There is absolutely nothing wrong with talking to someone and just unloading whats on your mind, it does wonders.
  2. DATE YOURSELF. To understand more about dating yourself you can check out my post on it here. Just taking yourself out whether its to a movie or shopping or dinner and forgetting about everything thats weighing you down for a while can really help you
  3. READ A BOOK. I personally love reading, its something that I've literally enjoyed since I could learn to read. Reading is such a great form of escapism, just allowing yourself to be captured by the literature and almost forget where you are is an amazing sensation.
  4. KEEP A JOURNAL. Now if you don't have someone you can talk to or communicate with, journaling can be a great alternative. Writing out everything thats bothering you or your thoughts can really help you practice mindfulness and also give you some perspective on how best to conquer these issues.
  5. SMALL ACTS OF KINDNESS. Its so easy to get bogged down with the negative, something I like to do is just note small acts of kindness I see on a day to day basis. I find that it helps me remember that there is still good in the world and it encourages me to incorporate into my daily life.
  6. TREAT YOURSELF. Yes I am referencing to Tom and Donna from Parks and Rec and yes I do believe this! Treating yourself to something as small as a chocolate bar or those pair of shoes you've had your eye on for a while is a great way to practice self kindness.
I hope a few of these helped or impacted you in some way. If you have a method of keeping your head up that I haven't mentioned be sure to leave it in the comments below!
I'll see you next week and remember to take care of yourself!

Until Next Time,
Natalie x
