Why I'm Ditching Diets

London, UK

Hey,

So today I really want to talk about why diets and I really just don't mix.

This (academic) year I put on quite a bit of weight due to the fact that I stress eat like crazy and this year was pretty stressful when I look back on it. I mean if you saw me you would probably wouldn't really notice my weight but I'm currently the heaviest I've ever been and I can't lie I'm really struggling try to lose this weight.

So about 2 months ago I tried one of those 28 challenge diets. I didn't finish it. About a month ago I tried another one. I still didn't finish. For me, it was just going from eating so much shit to doing a complete overhaul and eating only fresh, unprocessed foods. It was too much. I was okay for the first week until the cravings became too much and I caved in and promised I would start again tomorrow. Obviously tomorrow never came.

I'm starting to realise that dieting is not for me. I can do it for a short while before giving in and completely ruining all the work I've accomplished. I have a pretty unhealthy relationship with food I'm the first to admit that. My issue is that I look at food as comfort instead of sustenance. If I continue to do that then I'll never get anywhere. In order to lose weight and ultimately just be healthier I have to forgo the diet in exchange for a lifestyle change.

Its not an ideal situation but its necessary. I'm willing to make the change. In fact I already have. I've started cooking my own meals that I enjoy eating and are good for me and I've stopped eating out almost entirely. I keep seeing that losing weight is like 70% eating and 30% exercise so I try to work out like every other day alternating between cardio and strength for at most 60 mins. I still have a treat meal once a week because if theres anything I've learned its that I can't do cold turkey. And thats okay.

I probably won't lose a whole load of weight in 28 days but I'l be on a better track than I am now, with the gradual changes becoming lifelong changes. And at the end of the day all I can really pray for is to be healthy at the age of 60 running with my grandkids (if in doubt google Adrienne Banfield-Jones then @ me) and living my life.

Anyway if you guys have had the same experiences as me when it comes to dieting or have any tips or maybe dieting has actually helped you please leave a comment, I'd love to hear your experience.

Well until next time,
Natalie

  1. I'm crap at diets, I don't like to look at eating habits as diets. Such an ugly word to me, sounds automatically restricting. I refer to it as a lifestyle change, a little tweak. I added juicing to my routine a couple years ago - best decision, it jump started weight loss for me.

I'm a vegetarian but need to up my exercise contrary to the belief, vegetarians can put on weight lol xo DolceVanity

    1. Yeah same here, I think just focusing on what you're introducing to your body rather than what you're taking away. I've been thinking about juicing recently, I'm definitely gonna have to give it a go.
Lol, I hear ya, thanks for taking the time to read and comment :D
